Pink, Red & Gold

I am getting quite excited for the weekend. I have about 10 ladies coming over for tea tomorrow and I am primping my dining room out for the event! I will post some little updates over on Instagram as I prepare today & tomorrow, if you want to follow along.

Since I am decorating for a Valentine's tea, I have Pink, Red & Gold on my mind this week. I thought a little inspiration from my favorite stores would give me motivation to finish my prepping today.

1. Valentine's Garland; 2. Gold Polka Dot Pillow; 3. Heart Catchall; 4. LOVE sign; 5. Red Flatware;
6. Fuchsia edged napkins; 7. Love Pillow; 8. Gold Heart Pillow; 9. Fuchsia Ottoman; 10. MR & MRS Mugs; 11. Rug; 12. Heart Pillow; 13. Fuchsia Pouf

Would you ever add any of these items to your home decor? I am thinking that rug and pouf would look fabulous in a tween girl's bedroom. And..well I love anything gold, so I would totally add the Love pillow and polka dot pillow to my own bedroom!

Have a wonderful weekend! Hope to share some pictures of our Valentine's Tea on Monday!

Friday Finds

Well it isn't a secret that I LOVE to shop! It is definitely part of many family jokes. I am not an extreme shopper by any means. I actually do a lot of window shopping more than I actually spend money. I like a good bargain like the rest of you!

So today on a sunny NC day, I wanted to give you a little peek at what items I have found while out and about Raleigh this week.

Pottery barn is really stepping up their game lately. How amazing is this denim tufted couch?! Obviously I didn't buy it, but it would be so practical in a family room and not to mention adding some chic to your space.

Have you noticed that Pottery barn's bedding is starting to look a little like Restoration Hardware? I really like the calming look and of course the prices are a bit more reasonable.

Okay friends...Target is so my happy place! Is it yours?

Take a look at all these adorable new side tables at Target! Loving the top campaign tables and that mid-century table needs to come home with me! (if only I had room)

This desk is just what I have been looking for! Too bad it doesn't come in White! Only red and black.

Remember my post on changing up my bar stools? Well look what I found...2 for $99 at Target. They look a little more orange in this pic (phone pic), but are really just the perfect yellow! They also come in an amazing kelly green and black in store and many other colors online.

I only wish I had these colors in my house! Loving these sea-grass Ikat bins. Someone please go and buy them!

These bins are so fun and come in many colors and sizes! I bought a few of the white ones for organizing my linen closet. (wish me luck on that one!)

I might have been living under a rock for a while, but have you seen all the beautiful fabrics that HGTV has at JoAnn's !? So many patters and colors. I especially love the back and white zigzag and the blue and tan watercolor fabric.

Well nothing too crazy all, but just a few things here and there that I have found. What deals or items have you discovered lately?

I will leave you with one of my favorite quotes from Instagram {@eatsleepdecor) this week....

Have A Fabulous Weekend Sweets!

Baby Girl Nursery Plan

A couple of weeks ago I spent some time with one of my dear friends, Lisa. She is expecting a little girl in March and is really trying to get everything ready for her baby girl's arrival. She was unsure of what route to take when it came to the nursery. All she knew is that she loved neutrals and wanted a room that was very soothing and classy. She loves soft grays and linen fabric.

Taking all of this into account, I created a little mood board with some ideas.

Two wonderful gray paint colors are: Moonshine by Benjamin Moore or the above one Collonade Gray by Sherwin Williams. Both would be great options for a soothing neutral nursery.

Sources: Glider- West Elm; Crib- Pottery Barn; Rug- Joss & Main; Dresser- Ikea; Chandelier- Shades of Light

Lisa recently sent me a picture of her fabrics. They are so beautiful! White eyelet, linen and cotton. Don't they just scream whisper classy? Her sister-in law is going to help her make her bedding as well as the window treatments.

I can't wait to see how she uses them in the space!

I was thinking that above the dresser/changing table should be a beautiful gallery wall with frames in different sizes and finishes. I love these ideas below:

If she wanted to add some "pops" of color in the space she could do that with some artwork, rugs & pillows!

What do you think so far? I can't wait to share some before and after pictures in a few weeks! Stay tuned..

What's new at {Pottery Barn}?

Have you noticed that Pottery Barn is rockin it lately? I mean...they always have wonderful items, but I am really loving some of their new inventory this month.

How about these beautiful glass base lamps!? I love how the light really brings out the bright colors in each lamp.

Can't go wrong with some Ikat in the bedroom!

These Suzani Plates are perfect for any season. Pair them with brown or orange for Fall and green or yellow for Spring!

Casual Kilim floor seating for any family space!

Neat Rustic USA Panel Art for an office or bonus area.

Neutral Moroccan Scroll Area Rug for any space in your home!

I am really loving this rustic console with lots of storage compartments. If only I had a place for it!

This beautifully tufted ottoman with nail head trim needs a place in my home! HA!
How about the soft Beni Rug? I think these two pieces make this space!

What do you think about Pottery Barn's new line of furniture and accessories?

Sectional Couch Choices

After 7 years of whining & pleading waiting patiently, the Hubs has agreed to let me purchase a sectional couch for our family room. Let me tell you how excited I am!!

We have a small living area and with all the entertaining we do, we just don't have enough seating for our guests. The sectional couch will alleviate people sitting on the floor!! We have a decent size couch now that was a hand-me-down from my parents. We also have an over-sized chair and ottoman that I bought from Sam's Club when we first got married. And...well folks, that's it!

So...I have been hunting for several months for that "perfect" sectional couch.  I really wanted something that was classy looking with clean lines, but also functioned well for all the wear and tear that my nephew can do! I wanted my space to be comfortable, so all of my guests feel at home. I didn't want a couch that I would have to worry about all the time or try and keep clean. I mean...what is the fun in having an "off limits" room? I never understood that.

Here are some of the couches that were in the running to be a part of my home!:
#1 Axis Sectional: This was probably the most comfortable couch that we sat on. It even had some fabulous fabric that was kid, husband and pet friendly. The only downfall.....it was too big for our space! I was very bummed, but knew I didn't want our whole family room to just be a couch! Ha!

#2 Pearce L-Shape Sectional: I always thought this would be my first love. I have always wanted a sectional from Pottery Barn. Well...this one was also out because I noticed on many blogs and pictures I have seen that the back cushions seemed to not hold up that well. In a lot of the pictures I saw, the couch seemed sloppy, like it was a bed and hadn't been made for the day. No offense to those who own this couch. It is very comfortable and looks classy in the stores, but wasn't impressed with what it could look like after only a couple of years.

#3 Cameron Sectional: I also liked this model, but wasn't sure how it would look in a sectional. I got to sit in the couch version in Crate and Barrel, but really wanted a couch I could try out and visualize in person. I was also not so impressed with the back cushions. It was one large piece instead of individual back cushions. It just wasn't as comfy as some of the others.

#4 Henry Sectional: I also really liked the looks of this couch as well and I LOVED the price tag. But... it was a no can do because we don't have a West Elm near us. I wanted to be able to buy something that I could see and try out in person.

So do you want to know the Winner!??
This guy was a bit of a splurge for us, but after saving for 7 years and telling the Hubs that I would keep it for like 20 years...... we signed on the dotted line.
Our Pick!! Bennett Sectional from Ethan Allen. This was a super comfortable couch and the size was perfect for our little space. The above picture shows petite legs, detached cushions and rolled arms. Our sectional will have the shorten legs and detached cushions as well. The only difference will be the fabric and the arms. For the fabric I picked a neutral weave fabric that has grays, blacks and tans all combined. So you won't see any spills or cat hair! (sorry I don't have a good picture of the fabric to show you) Also, we went with the squared arms rather than the rolled. The designer thought it would bring some interest to our room and marry a little modern to the traditional. I agree! I love clean lines!

So that is that! I am hoping it will be delivered in the next couple of weeks! I can't wait to share it with all of you!

Do you have a sectional couch? Which was your choice? Do tell!

Master Bedroom Makeover

As I have gotten older, my style has evolved and I have found designs and styles that take my breath away. I feel my style use to be more country.  I loved the feel of quilts and enjoyed the shaker style of wood furniture. I still think those styles are beautiful, but don’t quite fit into the decorating scheme of this home.

I now feel as though I have shifted my style to modern/traditional. I love the curved pieces of sleigh beds, but really crave a good geometric shaped pattern on a pillow, rug, throw or artwork. I like walking into a room and seeing many different styles and pieces thrown together to create one magnificent room!

Below is a picture of what my master bedroom looked like just a few months ago:

As you can see, I needed to do quite a few updates. I really love this pottery barn bedding, but I want something a little more light and airy feeling. Something a little more....relaxed. With that being said, I still might pull this bedding out for the holiday season and bring some warmth back into my room.

Everything in this room was dark: Dark bed, dark bedding, dark side tables, dark dresser and dark picture. I just needed a change!

I first wanted to pick a wall color that would calm the room as well as feel inviting as soon as you walked in. Well…let me just say, the color didn’t turn out the way I wanted. I wanted a true gray and what did I get? BLUE!

I decided on the color "Simply Gray" by Valspar Signature Colors. Wouldn't you think that if a color were called SIMPLY GRAY....it would be gray! Well...I guess the crazy NOT!

So this was how it all started…..after letting out a BIG scream sigh, I decided that if I kept everything in the room light, that it wouldn’t be so blue after all. (I really didn’t want to repaint!)

Then on to my design board....I used my favorite sight, Olioboard, to compile furniture and ideas. I really loved the blue, yellow and gray color palette.

Ahhhh....doesn't this room already make you feel relaxed?

So this is where I am in my master bedroom makerover...trying to finish up the projects on a tight budget without losing any of the great design elements.

Here is my Master Bedroom to do list:

  • Paint Walls & Tray Ceiling
  • Create Gallery Wall
  • Recover seat cushion on chair & add edging
  • New Grommet Drapes
  • New Bedside Lamps
  • New Bedding
  • Make Euro Pillows with dove fabric
  • Spray paint bedside tables white
  • Change out knobs on large dresser
  • New Artwork above bed
  • Change out Fan for light fixture (sorry…hubs said the fan must stay!)

Not so bad huh? I am getting there and can’t wait to share the great progress with all of you!

What do you think so far? How about the color?

Today is my last day in the 20’s! Wish me luck! HA!

Master Bedroom Gallery Wall

We have a large wall opposite our bed in the master bedroom that needs a little TLC. As you can see from the picture below there is a lot of space that needs to be filled with something!

I have been racking my brain on what to do with the large wall space. Then I saw some great gallery walls on Pinterest. They have inspired me to try and create a gallery of my favorite pictures, prints and paintings.

Here are a few of my favorite gallery wall ideas:

YHL

There are so many ideas to choose from. Should I do same color frames? Multi-color frames? Should I make the frames symmetrical? Should I scatter and stagger the frames? Should I have a specific theme? All pictures? Mix pictures, drawings & paintings?

Seriously people….I need some major help! What do you like the best?
