Our {Guest Room} Updates

Yep...I am still here and these babies are still kicking inside of me. 35 weeks today! Will be sharing some maternity photos tomorrow along with a couple of peeks of the nursery. We are hoping to meet these two sweet babes in less than 2 weeks. Crazy huh?

We have been in full "Get Stuff Done" mode and I have wanted to add a few new touches to our guest room since we will be having family and friends staying with us for a few weeks after the babes are born. I wanted to create a cozy spot for guests while they are here doing HUGE favors for us. Of course we had a very small budget since every penny has been going toward the babies necessities, but I think it turned out quite nice for very little money.

I kind of wish this was my room to be honest! I love all the natural light that streams in during the day. The coral and navy color scheme against all the neutrals in the room seem so relaxing and whisper "springtime".

The wrought Iron bed was my great grandparents and I can't get myself to paint it. I love the chippy worn look for sure. The duvet and cream shams were found a few years ago at HomeGoods. The rest of the sources are listed below:

*Wall Color- Ethereal Mood (SW 7639)
*Sconces- Lowe's
*Organic Coral Fan Sheets- Target
*Navy Pillows- WillaSkye Etsy
*Coral Lumbar- HomeGoods
*White Organic Blanket- Target
*Wood Shim Sunburst -DIY
*Left Side Table- HomeGoods
*Right Side Table- Pier One Years ago
*Tufted Bench/Ottoman- Target

Can you believe that the swing arm sconces were only $31.98 each? I have been wanting some industrial sconces for quite sometime, but I could never justify paying $100 or more. These sconces only come in bronze, so I did a quick little DIY and sprayed them with a rustoleum paint/primer in one and then did the second and third coats in my favorite Metallic Gold Spray Paint also from Rustoleum to get the exact brass color I was going for.

I am pretty darn excited about this little space for our guests! To see the before pics of this room, click Here. (It's come a long way!)

A Plan {Our Twin Nursery}

I will be 25 weeks pregnant tomorrow! Yahoo! Getting closer to meeting my babies. While counting down the days gets me excited, I am also a bit anxious when I think about getting everything done before their arrival. Especially because twins are known to come early. Yikes!
So we have been in the works cleaning, purging, organizing...you know, full nesting mode! I think I am wearing John down already and little does he know we still have so much left to do. Buckle up Hubs!

A while back I shared with you the previous floor plan of our tiny nursery. It was used for an extra guest room. Well at only 11'x10' we have had to be very creative when trying to fit TWO cribs, a dresser, glider and storage into this precious space.

Here is the layout we are hoping for:

It will be a bit cramped, but the sweet babies aren't going to care! We have really tried to create as much storage as possible with slide out drawers under the cribs, a six drawer dresser and two hanging bars for clothes in the closet. We are also re-doing one of our downstairs utility closets to create more storage for the big stuff that babies need like bouncers, bumbos, playmats, etc.

I want this room to feel calming with just little touches of color here and there. The walls are painted Shoji White by Sherwin Williams and the ceiling is Amazing Gray by Sherwin Williams. I really love the color palette that is going on so far!

Here are my design plans for the Twin's Neutral Nursery:

1. Round Mirror- I love this one, but have found a much cheaper version at Ikea that I think I am going to go with. There is so much white in the room that I wanted to add touches of gold to make the room feel a bit more sophisticated and put together.
2. Yellow Lamp- I needed a little pop of color and found a similar lamp at HomeGoods a while back. Its quite adorable.
3. Etsy Artwork- I love the balloons over the city as well as the merry-go round in Paris for a bit of whimsy.
4. Mid Century Dresser- I found an almost identical dresser to the West Elm one at a local antique/consignment shop. It is perfect and I can't wait to get it into the space!
5.Naps Fix Everything- Again I love supporting small business and Etsy is a great place to find artwork.
6. Floor Lamp- I am thinking that since I don't have a lot of room for a side table next to the glider, that I am in need of a floor lamp to give me the space I need.
7. Side Table- this Nate Berkus table just took to our local Target stores and I am thinking this is just what I need next to the glider.
8. Glider/Rocker- this glider is almost identical to one I found for around $200 at HomeGoods a couple of months ago. Such a steal and so so comfortable.
9. Pouf- I am in need of a pouf or ottoman to place my feet while rocking and feeding. I liked the pattern and colors in the one above. Target to save the day again!
10. Striped Fabric- this striped fabric will be used on the roman shade as well as the crib skirts. You can't go wrong with stripes in any room!

1. Pendant Light Fixture- This light has already been hung and is currently at an amazing price! You can see the lighting details in the nursery here.
2. Floating Shelves- I am so excited about my Lucite shelves that are going to be hung on the wall near the glider to organize books.
3. Color Scheme- These pillows that use to be on the guest bed have become my color inspiration. Yellow, Gray, Navy, Turquoise & a Flamingo Pink!
4. Bright Lab Lights- I love the looks of these string of lights. I think they would add a bit of fun to the room and come in such a variety of colors. This strand has white, gold, pink, coral, indigo and turquoise. I think the colors would be perfect!
5 & 6. Unexpected Artwork- I have been in love with Ricardo Solis art for quite sometime. I am so so excited that these prints should be here sometime later this week. I ordered 11x14 prints for above each crib. Can't wait to share a bit more about this artist in a couple of weeks.
7. Throw Rug- Even though the room has wall to wall carpeting, I am thinking a small rug would add another element to the room. Maybe even a possible sheep hide for near the dresser/changing table.
8. Baby Mod Crib {x2}- I absolutely love these cribs! We have just started setting them up and I dig the low profile and space that they save in our small room. They also have a drawer that pulls out underneath for storage. Perfection! And...can you believe they are from Walmart!?

So what do you think? Even though the room has to be fairly gender neutral since a boy and girl will be sharing the space, I have added some feminine and some masculine touches that I think will be perfect!

If you want to follow along with bits and pieces of the nursery as I add furniture and accessories to the space, head on over to Instagram! I am hoping to be able to share a tour of the room in just a few weeks. Wish me luck!

Kitchen Chairs {Look for Less}

Kitchen and dining room chairs can be so expensive! Have you noticed that?

I have always had a crush on Serena and Lily. I could take home anything from that store and make it work in my home. The only problem....the price. I found these adorable kitchen chairs a while back and thought they would be perfect to add some color in a space. I like the clean lines and no frills. They come in 10 different colorways.

I was searching Target for some decor ideas the other day and came across almost the exact chair! Is Target amazing or what?

If you look really close you will notice a few minor differences, but the price can't be beat.

Master Closet Organization {Before & After}

When we moved into our home a few years ago I fell in love with the open floor plan, the four spacious bedrooms and the high ceilings. The one thing I was not too happy about was having to downsize our master closet. To some of you, you might think it is a great walk-in closet! To others you will see what I mean by a small closet. It is all about perspective...isn't it?

Well after five years I finally feel like we have used the space in this closet wisely. We went vertical with the storage which has given us ample space for our clothes. We still don't have a place for our dresses and suits, so they stay put in the guest closet. I figured since we don't wear those items all that much, is was okay they weren't joining the rest of our clothes. We both have dressers as well for our T-shirts, shorts, workout clothes and PJs.

I would have loved to get a whole closet makeover with EasyClosets or the Elfa Closet solutions at The Container Store, but it wasn't in our budget. So instead I am going to share with you how I created an organized closet using a few easy solutions and products.

First I can't share my solutions without showing you where we were a few short months ago.

(Yes, I am hanging my head in shame at the moment) We would literally just throw our clothes on top of the shelves and run! I hated this closet and I am sure my husband was sick of me saying so.
And now the pretty picture.....

This is a "walk-in" closet, but on the left side of the closet is a full window. This leaves two very small walls for clothes. And if you remember there was a little nook to the right where we added some vertical shelves for my shoes. Definitely one of my favorite things about this closet now!

The other major solution for this closet were the cube shelves. We really needed something to organize all of our sweaters, jeans, etc. I found these shelves at Target and they fit perfectly with even a little space on top for hats and purses.

You can see I even added a little gold touch mimicking a campaign style with washi tape. I just had to make it a bit more exciting!

The hanging rod below my clothes was another necessity when it came to our dress pant situation. I found this closet rod at The Container Store. It is adjustable and fits perfectly in the lower corner of the closet. It really expanded our hanging space without having to add a permanent lower rod.

See Two-Toned Ikea Dresser Hack HERE

We also made use of the space behind the door by adding some hooks for hanging my bags and an outfit inspiration board. I also added some 3M hooks on the back of the door for the Hubs baseball caps.

I am also in love with my new wooden hangers! I found a box of 24 for $12.99 at target! They add a bit of texture to the space and bring that cohesive feel to the closet. I also used them in my coat closet makeover. Can't say enough amazing things about them. Gone are the days of plastic hangers for me!

I am so very happy with how it turned out. It might not be the biggest closet, but it now has big function! I am not scared to walk in my closet anymore!

How about you? What have you been organizing on a budget lately?

Playroom Design Plan & My Go-to {Kid Items} for the Home

Ever since I designed this reader's playroom and this reader's family room , I have received numerous emails about needing ideas on how to organize kids spaces while making them feel cohesive, fun and family friendly.

So today I am sharing a couple of design boards filled with my go-to items for kids. Remember that it doesn't have to be pricey to be fabulous!

A Few Tips:
1. Look for items that have lids or covers to hide toys when company comes over.
2. Find fabric that it easy to clean.
3. Mix and match high-low items so your space doesn't feel like a fisher-price house.
4. Add pops of color and texture to keep children engaged when playing in the space.

Kids Space 1
White Shelves, ABC Art, Pendant Light, Tree Shelf, Teardrop Bean Bag Chair, 123 Bins,
  RugWicker Basket, Tassel Bins

The space above was inspired by the ABC art print. Lots of vibrant colors to pull from! This space could be for any age child. I especially love the bean bag chair that gives that chartreuse pop to the space.

Kids Space 2

Animal Print Art, Pendant Light, Kids Wicker Chair, Striped Tent, Art Organizer, Supply Cart,
White Dipped Baskets, Campfire, White Cube table, Gray Bins Organizer

The second space is a little more subdued with calming black, white & grays with pops of turquoise and coral. Those animal art prints are hands down my favorite art for kids spaces. There are so many different animals to choose from and the 8x10's are only $25. Can you believe that the kids wicker chair is only $20 at Ikea!? Loving all the organization the bins, cart & art caddy can bring to this space as well.

So are you convinced that you can have a fun kids space that says fabulous!?

Tell me...what are your go to items for organizing your kid's toys?

Tuesday Treats #11 {Spring Inspired}

Well we made it to another day folks! Who else is ready for Spring weather? We had more ice last night and schools are either delayed or canceled again today. Who would have thought this much cold weather in NC this year?

So to inspire us and not get us discouraged (because we know Spring IS COMING), let's take a look at my Tuesday Treats....

#1: Spring Party Collection at Target
Oh Joy is an amazing inspiration blog. She writes about entertaining ideas and her home is fabulous and full of fun and color! She just launched her party collection over at Target this week. You will absolutely be inspired to throw a garden party or spring party! Take a look Here.

#2: Free Spring Essentials Printable
Do you remember that adorable Fall Printable that Emily created? Well she just finished her Spring design and I have to say...it is one of my favorites! You can download and print from Here. You can also find her other printables when you sign up Here.

#3: What's Your Spring Style?
Take this Quiz from Lonny to find out your Spring Style! I took the quiz and got "Prom Queen". I always knew I would be a fabulous prom queen! Ha! This is what the quiz said about me....

"When "matching" came back in, you threw a party—cocktail attire required, of course. You revel in a sense of occasion, and never met a dog statue or chandelier (be it Sputnik or crystal) that you didn’t like. Still, you've got a few new decorating tricks up your sleeve: these days, you’re mixing brighter ’80s-inspired colors with those pastel hues and experimenting with black-and-white dazzle camo to make that tufted headboard look especially fresh. "

In the clique: Celerie Kemble
Your new best friend: Less-done animal prints (as in dalmatian).

#4: Spring/Summer Hat Inspiration
I have never met a hat that I didn't like! I have a lot of hats and wear them all at different times of the year. If you follow me on Instagram, you probably saw the picture below while I was at the beach last week. I picked up that adorable beauty for only $5 at the local discount store. I have been more conscious lately about wearing hats while out in the sun. I want to preserve this face for as long as possible. I am already seeing some sun spots and signs of aging.
If you are getting ready for the spring and summer outdoors then click on the links below and get yourself a fabulous hat!! You deserve it and so does your skin!

#5: Outdoor Spaces
I am sure that all of you are dreaming of your outdoor spaces this week. I am in love with the porch below with its' minty green ceiling and fabulous swing. Doesn't it look like a great place to read a book and sip some tea? I am right there with ya! I have a great board on pinterest called Outdoor Spaces. I love getting inspired for the warmer weather just by going back to that board over and over again.

Make sure you have a countdown to warmer weather...wherever you may live! It will keep you motivated! If you decide to take the Lonny quiz, leave me a message telling me what your Spring Style is! I would love to know!

Have a marvelous day my friends!

An Organized Coat Closet

Happy Monday! So glad we are off to a fresh new week.

Over the weekend I finally finished organizing our coat closet. It has been bugging me for some time now and all it needed was an hour of my time! I took everything out of the closet and sorted what I was keeping, donating and throwing away. Then I dusted, vacuumed and moped! It was a fresh start!!

I picked up just a few items from Target to complete this project! Wooden Hangers, Plastic Baskets & one large Woven basket.

These woven plastic bins are my favorite! I have used them all over our house including our Laundry Closet Makeover. They are so easy to wipe down. I reused a basket that I already had for the various cat supplies that were just laying on the floor. I already had these chalk board labels and used my favorite Chalk Markers to label the baskets. You can find some great labels at Staples in the Martha Stewart Section if you don't have a label maker at home.

I love this woven basket. It is really large and made of plastic fibers which is easy to clean with some soap and water! This special basket contains all my books and toys for when my niece and nephew stop by. So convenient to just pull out and store.

Matching hangers were a must! The plastic hangers weren't tough enough for the heavy coats. I love how the wooden hangers have really helped create a more esthetically pleasing space. Only $13.99 for a pack of 24! I thought it was a great deal and I have leftover hangers to use in our other closets.

I am very pumped at how it turned out. Now I can open the door and not feel like I need to immediately shut it so I won't become overwhelmed!

You might have also noticed a couple hats hanging on the door and right on the inside wall. I used some 3M hooks I had to hang the random hats that were thrown in the closet. Now we can actually find them!

Pretty Great..don't you think? It took me less than an hour to rummage through everything and get the items organized where I wanted them. A trip to Target or the Container store was also very inspiring! You may not have the extra funds to get new containers, bins or baskets. But, just walking around those stores you can get ideas on how to best organize your own spaces. Think of re-purposing items around your home or using baskets and bins you might have laying in your attic or basement. You don't always have to buy new to create organized spaces!

So what DIY or Organizing projects do you have going on around your home? Do you need a little accountability to get them finished? Email me at: Eatsleepdecorate(at)gmail(dot)com and let's get you motivated!
