DIY Black & White Pumpkins

Ok Okay.... I know it is Sunday and I usually don't post on Sundays, but I couldn't resist! I was so excited to show you how awesome these cute black and white pumpkins came out!

I have definitely been in the Halloween/Fall mood this weekend. I have been DIYing like crazy!

I found two plain white pumpkins at Michaels last week. I was thinking I would add them to my Fall mantel decor. When I placed them on the mantle, they just seemed a little boring to me. They needed a little sumthin sumthin! HA! So...I decided to turn my Fall mantel into a Halloween mantel.

I started using blue painters tape to make zigzags around the pumpkin.

Once finished, I took the pumpkin outside and added some blue tape to the stem so it would keep the original brown color. Then I went to town spray painting the pumpkin Glossy Black Lacquer.

Once the paint was dry, I started pulling off the blue tape.

{I must tell you that when I went outside to see if the paint was dry, I noticed that the sprinklers were on! Ugh...so you can tell the paint dripped a little. Ah Well...makes it look a little more Halloweenish!}

And...wah la! Cute Halloween pumpkins!

As you can see, I decided to do the second one in slanted stripes. It turned out pretty cool as well!

What do you think? Not perfect...but I just love them!

DIY Fall Burlap Wreath for Under $15

I think I might have told you all that I am obsessed with Burlap this fall. I have found so many neat things to make out of burlap! I went to JoAnn's the other day and bought 4 yards of this crazy stuff! When I walked up to the register to pay for it, the girl told me she didn't like the smell of burlap because she grew up on a farm with horse and hay, etc. She said that burlap reminds her of her childhood. I thought that was hilarious! I told her at least she doesn't live with me! I love Burlap! (I seriously think she thought I was crazy!)

Oh well....so on with my post.

I decided to try and make a wreath of some sort for my front door. My friend Katie from Thrify Finds and Redesigns inspired me with her burlap wreath actually made out of a vintage potato sack! So cool.

I started with this styrofoam wreath that I got from Michaels.

I used burlap scraps from another project and started wrapping the burlap around the styrofoam wreath. I used one straight pin to hold down the final end.

It ended up looking like this:

I thought it looked pretty neat just plain burlap, but I am not a plain girl and I thought it needed a little bling of some sort. So I decided to start wrapping some orange ribbon on top of the burlap. I used straight pins to pin down each end, so I could take the orange ribbon off after the Fall season and add something new!

Not too shabby:

It still needed something else, it didn't feel finished......so off to Michaels AGAIN!

I found an aisle full of these little beauties...all sizes and colors.

I tried rearranging them in different patterns around the wreath. Once I finally decided on what worked, I used straight pins to pin them into the styrofoam. That way it would be easy to remove these felt flowers and I could reuse this wreath for a different season.

And the finished product.......

I think it looks pretty good! As you can see, I hot glued some orange ribbon to the door hanger just to add a little more color and to hide the shinny silver hanger.

What do you think? I really love that I can take the wreath apart and easily change it with the seasons.

Kiawah Island Shop Finds!

Last week I posted about our family trip to Kiawah Island. It was such a fabulous trip! We spent most of our trip hanging out at the beach, but I did manage to get away and take a walk around the shopping center at Freshfields Village with my mom.

What a cute area and the shops were amazing!

In the first home decor shop, I was greeted by these lovely yellow ladies!
I mean...how fabulous are these...really? Wish I could have taken them home!

Then I stumbled upon this beautful Gray Velvet Chesterfield Sofa.....

How about this beauty for my sunburst fans......oh yeah!

I couldn't believe how many samples and books of fabric were in this store! You could seriously find any pattern and color you were looking for right here in this little shop.

The lighting in this store was just amazing. So much to look at I seriously was having major home decor overload! (if thats even possible)

Then I came across the area that I could actually afford...(so I thought). I saw this cute little waste basket that I could use in my master bedroom.

ummmm....it was $129!! I about fell over. Then...I decided I could totally DIY a trash can and it would look just the same! So anyone with me on this!?? DIY craft night?

Then it was on to shop #2!

I totally fell in love with this hanging rope bed.

I even had my brother start making me some plans for this bed to be placed in a screened-in porch. Well...I don't have a screened-in porch, but I think I need one just to fit this gorgeous bed inside! I would so be taking naps outside everyday!


This shop had some beautiful bedding.

My last find was this rope mirror. I think this might be my next DIY as well as the waste basket!

Is anyone else drooling at this point? You can imagine what I felt like in real life! HA!
