The Tassel Trend

Hi all! It is finally hump day and man is it HOT here in NC today! I think I will stay inside and complete some projects rather that facing the humidity.

Today we are talking trends. Are you a trend follower or are you just a trend watcher? I happen to jump on board if a trend fits my style and mood. I don't follow the trends just because the "trend makers" say that this or that trend is going to be in for the season. I pick and choose as I like. But that doesn't stop me from being a trend watcher. I love to see what specific trends will hit the fashion and decor world every year.

One trend that has seemed to make the rounds this past year is the Tassel. Every size and color!

I do love how tassels can give a subtle pop of color against a white drape or plain T-shirt. Not exactly sure how I feel about tassels on shoes and bathing suits, but I am warming up to the idea and I can appreciate others liking those fashion statements.

There are also some fun tutorials on how to make your own tassel decor such as this tassel garland below as well as this necklace & this pillow.

So what is your opinion...do you like to stay on trend or do you hop on it when the mood is right?

Tuesday Treats #10 {Academy Awards Style}

Did you all watch the Academy Awards this weekend? I actually got to sit down with a martini and watch all of the red carpet and most of the awards. After two martini's I just wasn't able to stay awake any longer! (I know I am a weakling these days.)

This week's Tuesday Treats is devoted to the Academy Awards. So if you missed the fun and entertaining show on Sunday, I will try and catch you up with the deets!

1. It wasn't a surprise that Matthew McConaughey won best Actor, but I was surprised by his amazing acceptance speech.  It was one of the best I have heard in a long time. He also ended it with his famous "All right, All right, All right" from his first film "Dazed & Confused."

2. Loved  Pharrell's performance of "Happy".  This blog wrote a great post about the things that inspire her and make her happy and I just fell in love with her writing! You must check it out.

3. Ellen DeGeneres was just as hilarious and entertaining as ever! One of my favorite parts of the night was when she ordered pizza and some random delivery boy thought he was delivering pizza for the backstage workers and ended up helping Ellen pass out pieces of pizza to the stars in the audience. Lucky boy..hope he got a big ole tip! And...who can forget the best selfie ever which ended up crashing twitter for a split second!?

4. Oh the Fashion that hits the red carpet every year! Last year I did a post about interior design that was inspired by the red carpet fashion. That has been one of my favorite posts to date. Here are some of my favorite's from Sunday night:

5. Fashion Quotes...since we are on the topic of fashion and red carpet, I will end with some of my favorite fashion quotes:

New Crush {Stowe Street} Bangles & A GIVEAWAY!

Last week I gave you a glimpse into some products and ideas that I have been diggin lately! After I wrote that post, I emailed the designer, Jessica from Stowe Street and introduced myself. I told her how much I loved her Bangles and Cuffs and how they reminded me so much of either Kate Spade or Coach designs.

She emailed me back and told me a little background of the company:
To give you a little more information about the company, it was started by my best friend from high school Jennifer and myself only a few months ago. We have been working together for the past two years on a men's bag and accessories company (www.navali.com), but we really wanted to do something for a women's market as that obviously speaks a lot more to us, so we came up with the idea for the bracelets. We have always been big fans of the clean and polished look from brands like Kate Spade and Coach, but their accessories can be super pricey, so we wanted to create a similar product at a better price point. Jen and I designed the bracelets ourselves with the help of our artist who helped our ideas come to life.

She also asked that if any of my readers (That's YOU!) had any ideas for different types of metals and/or designs to let her know! She really wants to expand this company and I think they will do very well, don't you?

And....today is YOUR LUCKY DAY because Jessica was sweet enough to give away an Ella Striped Cuff to ONE fabulous follower of Eat.Sleep.Decorate!

Just in time for Christmas! You can keep it for yourself or give it away for a gift!
(Personally I would keep it...just sayin!)

Here's how to enter:

*Go to Stowe Street's Website and let me know which bangle or cuff is your favorite by commenting below
*"Like" Stowe Street on Facebook and then comment below!
***You have a total of two entries. I will use random.org to pick the winner for Monday 12/10/12!***

That's It! Giveaway runs from today 12/5/12- 12/9/12 (Midnight EST) Good Luck!

Thanks Jessica for a fabulous product and a wonderful giveaway!

{Kentucky Derby} Traditions

I am usually not a fan of animal races of any kind, but the Kentucky Derby always catches my eye. I do love the look of a strong steady horse, however my eyes are never really on the horses. There are so many other traditions about this event that fascinate me.

For one, there is the Garland of Roses:

The roses started out as a tradition to be presented to all the ladies who attended the fashionable Derby party. They were such a huge hit that the roses were adopted to be the official flower of the Kentucky Derby in 1904. Each year the Garland of over 400 roses is draped over the winning horse.

Also loving the Mint Juleps:

This is the official drink of the Kentucky Derby. Each year more than 120,000 mint Juleps are served over a two day event for the Kentucky Derby. Check out the official recipe here.

My ultimate favorite tradition is the "Dress to Impress" attitude:

I love how a simple horse race can show off the classy side of spectators.

Ladies put their best spring attire on, showing off pastel dresses, pearls and high heels.

The men pull out their best suit jackets, pastel ties and khaki pants.

But wait...the most important item that sets the Derby apart from all other sporting events is the amazing parade of HATS!

Large or small, Modern or old-fashioned, striped, feathers, bows, flowers, big brimmed....you name it, the Derby has it!

So...are you watching the race? If so, are you watching the race or the fashion show?
Have a Great weekend!
