Neutral Nursery #4- Guest Post {Emily A. Clark}

It's Friday! Can you all believe it? I am so sad that this fun Neutral Nursery series is coming to an end. I have so enjoyed seeing other's perspectives of the same room that I am going to design for baby to be. I have taken bits and pieces from each room design and I can't wait to share the progress after the holidays with all of you. Thanks for following along! Nursery Design #1, Nursery Design #2, Nursery Design #3

Today you are going to see what the amazing Emily A. Clark has designed! She is another talented designer who is no stranger to the nursery scene, since she has 5 children! Her home is so inviting and she creates spaces with class and practicality. Emily is also one of the sweetest ladies. I have been in touch with her over the past few years via blogging and finally got to meet her this past summer at the Haven Conference in Atlanta. I am so excited that she is apart of this series.

Let's see what my girl came up with, shall we?..................

*********************************************************************************

I’m honored that Amy asked me to give her my two cents about what her nursery should look like.  I came up with what, I hope, is a fun mix of both feminine and masculine elements that could be played up more either way with artwork and accessories, depending on which little blessing she brings home.  I’m excited to see her nursery come together and more excited about the plan God has for her family.

Don't you feel instantly relaxed when you look at this design? I seriously think I just got sleepy! (That's a good thing since baby needs to sleep in there.) That crib is just beautiful and oh so classy. The metallic edged mirror gives the room a little texture and you can never go wrong with stripes in a nursery whether in a rug, painting or window treatments! I love that sweet ottoman fabric. Take a look at it closely..it has animals mixed in with the leaves. So sweet! Thanks so much Emily! I absolutely love it!

Now I have some serious decisions to make. At least the walls and ceiling are prepped and painted. Now comes the fun part. Hope to be able to share some updates with all of you after the holiday season. If you are visiting today, you can see our Adoption Announcement Here. A HUGE THANK YOU to my sweet ladies for being apart of this series Courtney, Denise, Abby & Emily. XOXO

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend! I will be back here next week with some holiday decorating and entertaining tips. Hope to see you all then!

Tuesday Treats #5- Inspiration & Ideas from around the web!

Wow! Tuesday already? Yep! I better get a move on if I am going to get everything accomplished by Friday...are you with me?

I am back with another fantastic round up of tips and tricks from around the web! I am crushing on all of these ideas this week. Enjoy!

Number One: Half Bath Makeover
Loving this makeover by The Lively Green Door. They made over this whole bathroom within 24 hours to surprise their father. I am so glad they kept the brass mirror. It just adds that extra WOW to the space.

Number Two: Decorating when you have small Kids
Do you have kids living at home? Well Emily A. Clark puts into perspective how to decorate your home and make it beautiful even if you have children running through your home! Trust me..she knows with 5 kids!

Number Three: Organized Scarves
Yes...it is scarf season here! I was in need of some major help when it comes to organizing my crazy scarf collection. How about you? Megan once again is the queen of organizing! Check out an easy and simple way to organize your scarves just before winter comes!

Number Four: 20 Ways to Use Leftover Pumpkin
I always hate when I have something leftover and it just goes to waste..don't you? I usually have leftover pumpkin puree if I am making cookies, pies, etc. Take a look at all the ways you can save your leftover pumpkin and put it to good use! Love.It!

I love this idea of taking the top drawer off a dresser or console and replacing it with a bottom hinge to create an entertainment center. The antique look really brings some warmth to the space and when guests arrive you just close the top drawer to hide your TV accessories! Thanks Jill for such an amazing idea!

So many fabulous ideas! Don't you just want to have time to tackle all of them!?
How do you feel about this series? What would you like to see during my Tuesday Treats?

Fabulous Feature Friday {Emily A. Clark}

I have been excited to feature this talented lady for quite a while now. I got to meet Emily in person last week at the Haven Conference and what a sweet person she really is. She is a Mother of 5 children! Emily loves design and you will see how she creates amazing spaces on a budget! She uses thrift finds and her own DIY skills to make her house a home. Hope you enjoy the tour!

Last year Emily turned her dining room into an office. What a brilliant idea, especially if you have your own
business and no room for an office in the other parts of your home. She had the built-ins done by a contractor and I think they are to die for! Take at the before and afters HERE.

Can't stand how your TV is the center of attention? Add a gallery wall around the TV to add more interest
and invite your eyes to look elsewhere.

Loving how bright and cheery this breakfast area is!

How adorable is their back stairway. Emily brought in the children's work creating
a gallery wall going up the stairway. So clever and meaningful!

Loving all the layering of rugs in her home. Sure creates a more intimate space!

Because their family grew faster than she was expecting, Emily created a bedroom and bath out of the old bonus/game room. Loving the layered bedding and the new bathroom below is just adorable!
See details HERE and HERE.

For pictures of Emily's previous house go HERE. (They are just as amazing as this home!)

Happy Friday All!

Top 5 Design Mistakes {Number One}

While at the Haven Conference last weekend, I went to so many great sessions taught by fabulous bloggers that really know their stuff. One class that I enjoyed was taught by Emily, Kristen & Sarah. They talked about the 5 most common design mistakes that people make.

Over the next few weeks I am going to recap what they taught us and how you can use this information to help create a more inviting home for you and your family.

First up.... Number One: Too Much of a Good Thing

This refers to matchy matchy furniture. You all know the sets that come together like a large couch, love seat, ottoman and chair that are all the same color and fabric choice? Don't worry if you have this in your home because I was also to blame when I first got married.

Don't get me wrong, some of these spaces are nice, but very boring! Our eyes just kind of stop at the dark matchy furniture. There isn't anything to excite us....no texture, color, variation of wood, etc.

I know that going into a big box store and picking out an already set up room is the easiest idea ever, however it isn't the best for making your house feel like a well designed home. If you are struggling with this design mistake at home...don't worry! There are so many people that do and that is why there are designers or friends to help a sista out.

I am going to show you a few ideas on how you can incorporate your matchy furniture, but change it up a bit.

This picture is a great example that you don't have to get rid of your matching furniture. Emily showed us this picture and I couldn't believe how adding different types of end tables and pillows can hide that matching furniture. In this picture they have matching leather love seats. By adding different texture end tables like the rustic wood coffee table, metal garden stool and high wooden end table your eyes can move from object to object and like what they see! Adding some textured pillows also makes a grand impact!

How about keeping your existing matching furniture set in the bedroom, but add a little paint to the side tables? This would help the room stay cohesive, but also add interest with different tones of paint. Adding a bench with a graphic pattern at the end of the bed is also a fantastic idea which lends texture and interest.

This bedroom says the opposite from the previous picture. Keep your existing end tables, dressers and even bed frame, but add some interest in a textured headboard. Staying with the same tones in the woods, but adding a fabric headboard does wonders in creating a well designed room.

This dining room is another great example of adding a few items to hide the matchy matchy furniture. You can see that the side dining chairs and table are matching, but adding different end chairs in different fabric really create some interest. Also adding the light drapes that contrast with the darker furniture really opens up this room and adds a brighter element.

How about all of you? Are you guilty of matchy matchy? Do you have some matching furniture that just needs a little tweak like the spaces above?

If you are stuck in your design mistakes, email me some pictures of your room and let's create a more inviting place! eatsleepdecorate (at) gmail (dot) com

Recovering from Haven Conference

Hi my beautiful friends! It has absolutely been a whirl wind of a few days and I am trying to catch up on some sleep and projects throughout this week. I enjoyed my time at the Haven Conference this past weekend. It was motivating, inspiring and just plain amazing! I met so many wonderful, down to earth bloggers. It was so neat to see hundreds of people with the same interest inspiring one another.

It was located at the gorgeous Grand Hyatt in Buckhead, Atlanta. The service was amazing and the food was an A+ in my book!

When I was finished with my conference late Saturday night, I came home and told my husband that I was a little depressed! I don't know if any of you have ever gone away to summer camp, but it was exactly like that. It was so exciting and so fun connecting with lots of friends that I didn't want to leave.

The Jean Jacket Posse

Can I tell you how amazing Jen@Iheartorganizing is? She taught a class on organizing and is one talented lady and not to mention the sweetest! If you aren't following her blog...well shame on you!

Emily from Emily A. Clark was the first blog that I ever started to follow. She is seriously the sweetest southern lady ever! It was so amazing to finally meet her in person. I feel as though we have been friends for a lifetime.

Do you know this face? Some of you may if you follow Young House Love's blog! This is Sherry and she is exactly the same in person as she is on her blog! Full of energy, humor and a real genuine person.

I also met up with a few other of my favorites like Cassie, Courtney & Holly! Make sure you stop on over and say hello!

I will be posting some recaps of last week here on the blog. I learned so much and really want to share it with all of my fabulous readers! We will talk about some great sponsors and vendors that I met, some organizing tips as well as top decorating no no's!

Have a Marvelous Monday All!

Featured Friday {Emily A. Clark}

Happy Friday All!
I am totally ready for the weekend, how about you? It has been a crazy week! I just got back from helping my parents pack up their home that they have owned for 30 years. It is bittersweet because they will be moving down south close to me! Actually only a mile from me! I am so excited! Isn't family the best?!

So that is my excuse for not posting much this week. I have a lot of pictures ready to take over the web for next week!! Stay Tuned!

On a exciting note, I was featured on Emily A. Clark today! She helped me pick my front door color and loves it just as much as I do.

If you haven't been on her blog before, you MUST check it out! She is one of my favorite decorators and I would consider her style a lot like mine. Thanks Emily for the Feature today!

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!
