Fabulous Feature Friday {Lauren Leiss Interiors}

Happy Friday! You made it my friends! I hope you have something exciting going on over the weekend. Like I talked about on Wednesday, I will be sprucing up my front porch for spring. I can't wait to add a little color and texture to my boring porch. Stay tuned....

I am so excited about today's Feature Friday! I have been following Lauren Liess for a few years now. She has recently opened up her own interior design shop in the D.C. area and has a fabulous textile line. She started off as a blogger and grew her business from there. I am so happy to introduce you to her!

One of my absolute favorite spaces in her home is Lauren's secret garden. It is right off her master bedroom. This is where she enjoys her morning coffee or evening shower. How amazing is this?

How great is this study/loft area? The wooden shelves are actually made from Ikea butcher block to cut down on cost. Genius! I love the texture those shelves bring into the room. Lauren's family must love to read and who wouldn't want to spend time in this comfortable space?!

It Started With Fabric {Master Bedroom Redesign}

Welcome back to a new week. I am a little slow going this morning...how about you? We just might have to make this a 2 cup of coffee morning!

A few weeks ago I was browsing the web for some new fabric for different designs that I am currently working on. I also wanted to find Schumacher's Zimba fabric in charcoal for the valance in the master bathroom. BUT...with the price tag of $70 a yard and a minimum shipment of 2 yards I was not going to slap down that kind of money when I really only need less than a yard. So I started thinking of possibly DIYing the fabric like Sarah did here. It looked way to confusing for me at this present moment with the busy spring season. So I decided to look on some discount sites including Ebay.

Did you all know they even sell fabric on Ebay? Well of course they do! They sell everything! I had never thought to look there.

So I got sidetracked. {At this point you are probably thinking..where is she going with all of this!?} I was on Ebay's site for a looonnng time. So long that I might have forgotten to eat dinner! I didn't find the Zimba fabric I was looking for, but I came across this beautiful fabric...

This pictures does NOT do the colors justice. It so beautiful in person and almost has a sturdy linen feel to the fabric. This fabric is called Chiang Mai Dragon in alabaster and is normally $149 per yard! YIKES! I knew this was a designer's fabric but didn't know it was so expensive. Well I was in luck because the bidding started at $10 on Ebay. Of course when the auction ended it closed at $40, but compared to $149 I think I got quite a deal.

I ended up with probably half of a yard and I am now rethinking my whole master bedroom design because of this colorful piece of fabric....calming whites and grays with a pop of color.

Friday Finds

Well it isn't a secret that I LOVE to shop! It is definitely part of many family jokes. I am not an extreme shopper by any means. I actually do a lot of window shopping more than I actually spend money. I like a good bargain like the rest of you!

So today on a sunny NC day, I wanted to give you a little peek at what items I have found while out and about Raleigh this week.

Pottery barn is really stepping up their game lately. How amazing is this denim tufted couch?! Obviously I didn't buy it, but it would be so practical in a family room and not to mention adding some chic to your space.

Have you noticed that Pottery barn's bedding is starting to look a little like Restoration Hardware? I really like the calming look and of course the prices are a bit more reasonable. 

Okay friends...Target is so my happy place! Is it yours?

Take a look at all these adorable new side tables at Target! Loving the top campaign tables and that mid-century table needs to come home with me! (if only I had room)

This desk is just what I have been looking for! Too bad it doesn't come in White! Only red and black.

Remember my post on changing up my bar stools? Well look what I found...2 for $99 at Target. They look a little more orange in this pic (phone pic), but are really just the perfect yellow! They also come in an amazing kelly green and black in store and many other colors online.

I only wish I had these colors in my house! Loving these sea-grass Ikat bins. Someone please go and buy them!

These bins are so fun and come in many colors and sizes! I bought a few of the white ones for organizing my linen closet. (wish me luck on that one!)

I might have been living under a rock for a while, but have you seen all the beautiful fabrics that HGTV has at JoAnn's !? So many patters and colors. I especially love the back and white zigzag and the blue and tan watercolor fabric.

Well nothing too crazy all, but just a few things here and there that I have found. What deals or items have you discovered lately?

{DIY} Ruffled Tree Skirt

A few months ago I found this tutorial on HGTV. I knew that since I wanted my holiday decor to be simple and a bit rustic this year, I decided to try my hand at the Ruffled Tree Skirt that is floating all over Pinterest!

Most of the tutorials are for "No Sew" Ruffled Tree Skirts, but mine is a "kinda sew" tree skirt. I called one of my elves for help...AKA my mother-in law. I knew I wanted the skirt to look like burlap or linen, but decided that burlap would fray and linen would get too wrinkly in storage. So we decided to use Osnaburg which looks just like linen without the hassle of ironing! 

My mother-in law cut 6" strips and folded them in half. She then used her ruffle foot for the sewing machine and set it on every 4th stitch to ruffle. She pretty much did the hard part! Once all the ruffles were made, we got to work putting the skirt together.

We used a white canvas fabric for the base. You can see this tutorial here on how to fold the fabric to cut a perfect (or close to perfect) circle. Mom and I used a different tree skirt and just traced the pattern from there.

We also zig zagged the edge of the base so it wouldn't unravel.

NOW...the "NO SEW" Part!!

We started at the bottom of the skirt and worked our way up. Using a hot glue gun we placed a small line of glue where we wanted the top of the ruffle to be. We slowly worked our way around the first row of ruffles.

We then started the second row of ruffles just above the first. We just eyeballed where we wanted the ruffle to stop. We wanted the bottom of the second ruffle just to cover the seam of the first row.


On and one we went....round and around! Until we got the look we wanted!

I am very curious to know how many glue sticks we used! It really did take us a couple of hours. But I think it was totally worth it! Don't you?

Fabric Scheme for a Fall Living room

Can you believe that we have our windows open in North Carolina today? It is just beautiful and I now have a little Fall Fever. How about you?

Speaking of Fall....I have started putting together some of the Fabrics I would like to use for our living room during the Fall season.

Last week I told you about my little lumbar inspiration for the sectional couch. That is what started my obsession of finding some patterns and colors that would work in our space.

I love the Mustard color that we see in wheat fields and on colorful leaves in the Fall. Some people really don't like that mus-tardy-yellow...Not me! As you all have figured out, I pretty much love every color in the rainbow if it is paired with the right accessories and Fabrics!!


So here is the plan:

1. The Yellow stripe is going to be made into a floor pillow so it will add a little punch below the sofa.

2. This Moroccan inspired Yellow Fabric that I found at Jo-Ann's will help me recover the rocking chair seat that is currently sitting in the corner of the living room. Also, if I have enough fabric leftover I would love to add a small tab to the side of my floor to ceiling white grommet curtains.

3. Not sure if I will use this pillow or not, but I made it from some napkins I found in Kiawah last year.

4. I am in love with this Ikat fabric that I also found at JoAnn Fabrics. I will make the Lumbar Pillows out of this fabric and might also use what is leftover to spread this color in the kitchen area.


I am anxious to find some time this week to finish some living room projects!

Weekend Trip to Hot Atlanta....shopping & house drooling

This past weekend we took a quick trip down to Atlanta to see my Aunt and Uncle. They live in the very wealthy area of Buckhead. I always love going there to see the fabulous homes and my Aunt is an amazing cook and always knows the places to take us shopping!

Quite Unbelievable Huh? I just love how each home is unique and has such great architectural features.
I sure would hate to clean these places, but I guess if you can afford to live in a place like this, you don't clean yourself!


We also ventured out to do some shopping....and where else to start but IKEA!!

New Chair...just in! I love the clean lines and chrome legs!

How about this fabulous closet! YES PLEASE!

How about these new rugs? I love the colors and patterns. I am totally kicking myself for not getting one!

We then stopped at a fabulous fabric outlet!! Let me tell you I was in my glory....I was so overwhelmed by how many fabrics were in this building that I literally didn't buy anything! WHAT? I couldn't make any decisions, so I walked on out with Nada! Have you ever done that?

And...Look what store I found while shopping around.....

I love me some Jonathan Adler! I will have to give you a little glimpse of this store tomorrow!

It was a fantastic weekend and I can't wait to share some of my upcoming projects that I will be working on because of a little shopping in Hot-Lanta!
