Our {Guest Room} Updates

Yep...I am still here and these babies are still kicking inside of me. 35 weeks today! Will be sharing some maternity photos tomorrow along with a couple of peeks of the nursery. We are hoping to meet these two sweet babes in less than 2 weeks. Crazy huh?

We have been in full "Get Stuff Done" mode and I have wanted to add a few new touches to our guest room since we will be having family and friends staying with us for a few weeks after the babes are born. I wanted to create a cozy spot for guests while they are here doing HUGE favors for us. Of course we had a very small budget since every penny has been going toward the babies necessities, but I think it turned out quite nice for very little money.

I kind of wish this was my room to be honest! I love all the natural light that streams in during the day. The coral and navy color scheme against all the neutrals in the room seem so relaxing and whisper "springtime".

The wrought Iron bed was my great grandparents and I can't get myself to paint it. I love the chippy worn look for sure. The duvet and cream shams were found a few years ago at HomeGoods. The rest of the sources are listed below:

*Wall Color- Ethereal Mood (SW 7639)
*Sconces- Lowe's
*Organic Coral Fan Sheets- Target
*Navy Pillows- WillaSkye Etsy
*Coral Lumbar- HomeGoods
*White Organic Blanket- Target
*Wood Shim Sunburst -DIY
*Left Side Table- HomeGoods
*Right Side Table- Pier One Years ago
*Tufted Bench/Ottoman- Target

Can you believe that the swing arm sconces were only $31.98 each? I have been wanting some industrial sconces for quite sometime, but I could never justify paying $100 or more. These sconces only come in bronze, so I did a quick little DIY and sprayed them with a rustoleum paint/primer in one and then did the second and third coats in my favorite Metallic Gold Spray Paint also from Rustoleum to get the exact brass color I was going for.

I am pretty darn excited about this little space for our guests! To see the before pics of this room, click Here. (It's come a long way!)

An Accent Wall with Wallpaper {Master Bedroom}

Hi All! We have been nesting away over here with just over three weeks till these babies make their arrival. So sorry that my posts have been few and far between. I am hoping to update you this week on a few changes going on around our home as well as finishing editing the nursery photos.

Today I am talking about wallpaper. Yes...most of us have been through the tearing and scraping of the dreaded 70's and 80's wallpaper days. I have always said that I would NEVER add wallpaper to my home after the demo in many of our flip homes. However, I have found some wonderful modern accent walls that have really change my mind lately....especially in the bedroom.

I have been thinking of adding an accent wall to our own master bedroom. Nothing crazy, but something neutral that adds a bit of luxe and texture.

Aren't they all quite fabulous? What do you think about wallpaper? Have I changed your mind?

I haven't posted a Friday Feature in a while and I really want to bring this back! I love finding new to me blogs and sharing some amazing talent with all of you.
I recently came across House Seven Blog on Instagram. She posts the most amazing snippets of her home, so I decided to check out her blog. Well...it is just as lovely. Anissa shares projects around her home as well as everyday life. I am excited to share her beautiful home with you today. Enjoy!

I just adore her Industrial Cottage Chic place! It started out as just a builder grade home and Anissa has added so much character to each space she touches. I love how she has combined vintage pieces as well as more modern pieces in each room. Love her style don't you?

Hope you lovelies have a wonderful weekend. We are tackling a few items on the nesting list! Wish the Hubs good luck! xoxo

I've got the Blues....

No I am not down in the dumps, but I've been really crushing on dark navy/indigo blue lately. Do you ever come across a color that excites you? I have never really been into lighter shades of blue, but dark-dramatic blue is where it's at (in my opinion).
Whether you use the color on a wall, in a pillow or to add a pop of color to your bathroom vanity...I think it can be both classy and modern. Use some navy paint against white molding and boy the contrast is fabulous!
See for yourself.....

Are you a fan of dark blue/indigo tones? Where could you see this color used within your own home?

Some of my favorite Dark Blue Paint Colors:
Naval by Sherwin Williams: SW 6244
Hale Navy by Benjamin Moore: HC-154
Gravel Gray by Benjamin Moore: 2127-30
Newburyport Blue by Benjamin Moore: HC-155
Polo Blue by Benjamin Moore: 2062-10
Midnight Navy by Benjamin Moore: 2067-10

Gorgeous Bedrooms with Dark Walls

I am thrilled to have a Guest Designer on Eat.Sleep.Decorate. today! Jane is here to talk about the new trend of going dark with our walls. She gives us some great tips and tricks on how create that dramatic room without having to go over the top dark. Personally I am a big fan of this trend. It seems to create something dramatic yet cozy. Enjoy!

Gorgeous Bedrooms with Dark Walls
By Jane Blanchard

Nothing transforms a room faster than changing the paint color. Try something new this season and add some drama to your bedroom with a dark, bold color. Dark colors add spirit, personality, and character to a room and there's nothing more dramatic than dark walls.

Most people think dark walls make a space dreary and depressing and, well, dark, but the truth is that a dark color is just as versatile as a light color. It's all about choosing the right color to define and highlight your room. Forget what you've heard about small spaces needing light colors. Using dark colors can actually make a small room look larger. These following examples show how to use dark colors on your walls to create your perfect bedroom.

These rich walls highlight the chandelier and make this narrow space feel spacious.

Dark colors also make a room feel intimate and cozy, which is a great effect for a bedroom. To keep the room from being too dark, it's important to spread lighting around the room and use accessories that reflect light.

With dark walls, you don't need a lot of other colors or patterns. Dark walls provide the perfect backdrop for incorporating different textures. Add even more dimension using mirrors. This simple room uses a variety of fabric textures on the bedding and window treatments, but a very simple color palette to create an intimate space.

When using a dark color, it's important to create contrast. Using light fabric on furniture and for window treatments will make the room pop. Dark walls can also help tie together different styles of furniture. Choose furniture that is noticeably lighter than the wall to make the room appear brighter.

Dark tones can highlight architectural features and unusual wall shapes. Here the dark walls highlight the moulding and the unusual wall shape. The shape of this room would have been lost with light colored walls. Incorporating the wall color into the bedding creates a balance in the room.

If you are hesitant to paint your walls dark, using a deep neutral tone can be a good compromise. A deep neutral tone can highlight bright colors, which makes your whole space look brighter. If using a saturated color, choose one contrasting accent hue so the room is not overwhelming.

Another solution is to use a dark color on only one wall. One dark wall can make a room seem larger and is a great way to bring some bold color to a space without too much commitment.

Wow! So much great inspiration. I am personally loving the last picture with the darker blue walls against the beige/linen color. I really do like more of a high contrast rather than having the whole room dark like a cave.

Which one is your favorite? Could you dig creating a dramatic space with dark walls?

India Hicks Bedding {Guest room Revamp}

If I had all the money in the world, I would switch my bedding every season in every room of my home. I absolutely love adding some warm textures for winter, taking off that heavy duvet and adding a light quilt for summer and bringing in different color combinations all year.

I was so excited when this package arrived at my doorstep a couple of weeks ago:

HSN was so thoughtful to send me a quilt set which happens to be apart of India Hick's new Island Living line. They must have read my mind because I was thinking of revamping the guest room with some lighter bedding for spring and summer.

Previously the guest room looked a little something like this:

The quilt, euro shams and duvet are all from Pottery barn a couple of years ago. I made the green and white pillows from cloth napkins..tutorial here. The bird pillow was a HomeGoods find. I was so in love with green back then. I still like the bedding, but was in need of a change. After seeing how the walls photograph, I think it is also time for a new wall color (not builder beige) and some window treatments. But we are taking baby steps people!

After adding my new India Hicks bedding I realized how much it brightened up the space and added a little more vintage feel to my great grandmother's bed. There is definitely more of a feminine touch to this room, which is good because this room also doubles as my office space which I will be sharing soon.

I had a little fun adding some unexpected colors with the plum and cream bedding. I love the touch of mint in the pillows I recently found at HomeGoods. I added a few others that I had around the house as well as the striped throw from Ikea. Such a fun mixture of colors and patterns.

This Quilt set is lightweight which is perfect for the warmer months down here in NC! It is made really well and is soft to the touch. The quilt is also reversible with stripes on the opposite side. It also comes in two colorways that you can view here

What do you all think? Be honest..which guest room bedding do you prefer....green or plum?

A HUGE thank you to HSN for sending me this gorgeous bedding. You can check out India Hicks full Island living line Here. You won't be disappointed!!

*I recieved this quilt set as a gift from HSN. I was not compensated in anyway for this post. All opinions are mine and only mine. Thanks for reading!*
